Detained opposition members moved to Kyauktan

Sep 05, 2007 (DVB)—Eleven National League for Democracy members arrested last Thursday after protesting high fuel prices have been moved from the Kyaikkasan interrogation centre to Kyauktan.

An NLD member who refused to be named told DVB yesterday that officials from Kyaikkasan had notified him of the decision to move the activists to a similar interrogation centre in Kyauktan.

“They were taken in trucks to Kyauktan interrogation centre at about 10pm on Sunday evening,” the NLD source said.

The group of NLD members moved included Ko Kyaw Soe Win, Ko Thant Zin Myo, Ma San San Win, Ko Thant Zaw Myint, Pho La-pyay, Ko Ye Thein Naing, Ko Aye Naing, Ko Mya Hlaing, Ko Thant Zin Oo and Ko Nay Doon.

The activists were reportedly still staging a hunger strike when they were transferred to Kyauktan. They are believed to have started the strike last Friday in an attempt to coerce officials into providing medical care to Ko Ye Thein Naing whose leg was badly broken during his arrest.
